Now…I’ll Admit It…

Well, it’s put back together and fixed.
I didn’t fix it.
But…..I was responsible for taking it apart in the first place.

I was too embarrassed to ask for help.
I had to make sure that if I was going to look foolish…..it had to be with people I respect…..

…..with an expertise that I obviously didn’t have…..
…..and tolerance for my numb-skullishness.

You see, I took apart my .38 revolver to clean it…..

…..it gets dirty in Patrice’s pocket…..and I had shot a snake or two…..and a couple more…..
This time…..I disassembled it more than usual…..

I took it apart real good…..
I cleaned off the kitchen table…..
…..spread out a bath towel…..

…..and dutifully started taking apart my trusty (yet reasonably priced) stainless steel Taurus .38 Special.

What I didn’t expect was springs jumping out at me…..!?!…..
I didn’t expect two (to be exact) different-sized springs…..

They had special places to return to…..to be happy again…..
They bounced out so fast…..I never saw them coming…..

I never saw from whence they came!?!
I immediately dropped one of the surprise-springs onto the kitchen floor…..
…..there was a profuse pile of consequential-confusion left on the bath towel…..

What happened to my organized-ordered…..?…..
#1. This came off first.
#2. This thingie flops this way next.
#3. This one should be screwed in backwards.
#4. A leaping spring!!!!!? #5. ANOTHER LEAPING SPRING!!!!!!!?
Wwwhhhaaattt!!!

Now it was just a pile of important-looking metal pieces, AND one of them was rolling around somewhere on the kitchen floor hidden amongst monstrous dust-bunnies…..
I was in trouble.

There was no systematic-reversal of parts to put back together………….I was in over my head.
Aaauuuggghhh!!!
I hate when that happens!…..

I put on my 325+ power readers (from DollarTree)…..
…..(it was a very TINY, surprise-spring)…..
I got down on my titanium knees…..and scoured the kitchen floor…..

…..while sweeping my hand across the kitchen tile…..(experiencing gross illustrations of a topographical-nature of just how bad my house-keeping-skills are)…..(was that cooked pasta?)…..(Oh, please, tell me that was cooked pasta!)

Aaaaaauuuuuugggggghhhhhh!!!
…..(That was rice, right?…..I’m sure it was…?)…..
(Keep in mind, I’m blind in one eye…..and the other one doesn’t see that great…)

Ultimately…..and with the help of my older daughter—————-(“Mom!…..why are you under the Hoosier? The spring is right by your left foot”)…..

…..I was pretty sure I had all of the previously-disassembled parts…..(including that damned-surprise-spring)…..
I did a couple preliminary run-throughs of putting my pistol back together again…..

I kept having left-over springs…..
Not Good…..!…..
Never Good…..!…..
I knew where I had to go…..

…..a good friend who would know what to do…..with minimal judgment and sarcasm…..
So feeling down-trodden & pathetic…..I swept all of my pistol’s bits & bobs into a plastic/left-over’s container…..

…..and off I went down the road…..
The story has a happy ending…..
…..he was able to put my little Taurus back together again…..

…..he even cleaned it for me…..
…..he told me NOT to touch the trigger-assembly ever again…..
…..oh…..okay…..
…..and the only sarcastic comment he made was about the nail polish he had to clean off the grip…..
