~~~New Piggles~~~
~~~New Piggles~~~

Apparently Mother Earth has deemed this to be Springtime…

Even though it’s the beginning of February…..yesterday, I discovered that Sweetie (our now-not-quite-so-feral-sow) had presented me with a new litter of piglets.

~~~Seven~~~
Sweetie  And  Her  Babies
I have no idea who are girls and who are boys——-AND I’m not going to venture into their pen to get more personal and find out…..besides it’s irrelevant at this point & it’s their private business anyway…….plus…….I value all of my fingers and limbs…
However (and more importantly) having discovered the addition of a new litter of baby piggles…..I had to immediately separate Mom from the rest of the adult-piggy-hoarde…
(…not to do so could have had dire consequences…and less piglets…)
Originally, we had constructed the pig pen into two main containment areas with a chute between that could be opened and secured for piggy-access to both pens…….or…….closed and secured to keep the pigs separate when necessary (like this occasion).
But that meant climbing in to unhook chains & clips, along with cutting hay-string (lots of things on this farm are held together with hay-string or hay-wire (HA!…..haywire!…..this farm IS haywire!)…
I  Always  Have  My  Pocket-Knife
All would have been fine…..and all would have gone swimmingly…..if only the hogs hadn’t done some re-decorating with the extra, rooted-up logs and mud which now mired both gates semi-open…….and completely stuck…
I had to climb over the pointy fence and start heaving lumber out of their (now dried) muck…
Additionally, I had to start shoveling out the excess, dried mud…..(we all know it’s not dried mud, right?)…
………….I didn’t take any photos of the event as it unfolded………….I was working too fast…………and I only had the length of time it would take four adult hogs to finish their buckets of food………….
*************Thoughts & Musings*************
I’ve discovered a hidden skill-set that I have practiced and honed over six decades of life…….
…..I can hit things with pin-point accuracy with a shovel-full of…….whatever…
It’s a valuable skill that I can produce with long or short-handled shovels/manure forks/pitch forks or whatever…..ambidextrously.
(…….and on this occasion…..that skill-set was extremely important…)
*************End Of Musings*************
The pigs had ALL finished their food at the same time and they came at me from both sides, simultaneously…….
…..I wasn’t done clearing the gates, and I could NOT slam them shut…
Aaaaauuuuuggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!       Time for some unabashed incontinence!!!!!!!
But, my hidden-skill-set galvanized into action…..and with gatling-gun-accuracy, I pinged every-single-one of those slavering-oinkers repeatedly.
I got them in whatever eye I aimed at…..or up their snouts…..or in their ears…..and in their open maws…
They were shocked…..and put (temporarily) off their game…..
There was some hysteria on my part (I must admit)…….but I finished off the digging super-fast and slammed shut their respective gates super-speedily…….
Digging  Like  Crazy  To  Get  The  Gates  Free
I do, however, have pictures of the babies that I’ll share now…….along with all of my remaining ten fingers…
I
Just another day at the oasis…
See………….Still Ten………….Phew…
