We have more invasive “weeds” to talk about…..

………….Oh, Goodie………….

Last summer I was on an extended rant about the aggressive sturdy virulent Dog Fennel…..

Don’t get me wrong…it’s still here…and it’s trying to keep its foothold…Everywhere…..

…..But Wait!…There’s More!…..

Remember the burrs from last fall?…..

Specifically the ones that decided to take up residency all over the Irish Wolfhounds…..

Well…..

I went Tasmanian Devil on them last Fall…(albeit…too late)…..

Because now…apparently…..

A lot of the little darlings have already been strewn across the backyard…and the front yard…(how come “backyard” is one word and “front yard” is two?)…(I worry about these things)…..

Burrs were dropped in ALL of the pastures and the swamp too…..

………….absolutely everywhere………….

………….(sigh)………….

Now…during the new growth of this Spring…they’re making their bright little green burr-heads known…..

AND in addition…Padraig showed me another new invasive plant…the Popcorn Tree…..

…..Oh…that’s just Swell…..

And then there’s the choking (but pretty) Morning Glory (?) vines who are popping up all over…and will soon be shorting out our electric fencing with its persistent pernicious climbing vines…..

Anymore…I don’t just walk around outside like a normal human being…..

These days…I am constantly bending over at the waist…and scrutinizing the ground with every step I take…..

…..all the while plucking out the “bad” plants…while leaving the “good” ones…..

I’m trying to pull these new weeds before their tap roots become deep and anchoring and all encompassing…making them impossible to pull up…..

But please remember………….my single-mindedness almost completely irradiated the Brazilian Apple plants of a few years back…..

There are still a couple who try to sprout…from time to time…but I rip them out as soon as I see their little umbrella leaves showing their little invasive heads…..

But…I haven’t made ANY headway with those invasive (and exceedingly painful #$%$#@) stinging nettles…..

I won’t admit defeat…just yet…but it’s not looking good…..

Now…my game plan is to be compulsively aggressive against the newly discovered Popcorn Trees…and the soon to be profuse burrs…and the strangling Morning Glories…along with the ever present dog fennel…..

…..(while skirting the agonizingly welting nettles)…(which are not to be confused with equally painful Sand Spurs)…..

Sunny Sub-Tropical Florida has so much more to offer than just pristine sandy beaches…and clear turquoise waters…..

It has vines and plants that will seek you out and strangle you in your sleep…if you don’t carefully lock all your windows and doors at night…..

I may never be able to stand up straight again…..

All I do is walk around staring at the ground…pulling out bad plants…while bleating expletives…..

Will I win………….Who knows…..

But I Am (at least) Persistent…..
