It’s the First of May………….May Day…..

May Day celebrations date back to ancient times…..

Bonfires…Maypoles…Flowers…Fertility…Stews…Barbecues…Baskets…Dancing…May Wine…and the May Queen…..

It’s a holiday that’s halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice…..

…..and the rhythm of the Seasons continues…..

The temperature down here is starting to hotten up…we’re running headlong into summer…..

And I don’t want to…..

…..let the whining begin…..

I pulled up the applicable map from NOAA’s Hurricane Center…just to see what’s going on…..

It’s nice to see it blank…..

I’ll be having some of our dead trees taken down by a professional (insured) company…the ones that could do damage to our house or our neighbors…..

The other dead trees—we can manage ourselves…..

Chainsawing (where stress release is concerned) is on a par with primal screaming into the swamp…plus you get some nice firewood out of the deal too…..

I just don’t want to risk dropping anything large onto the obnoxious neighbor’s property…..

They would like to continue with their delusion that they live in suburbia…with edged sidewalks…and limited-palette colored mailboxes…..

…..silly people…..

I hardly ever see them outside…it’s too hot…it’s too sweaty…(dare I say)…too country…..

I suppose they’d really be upset if I dropped a very large dead pine tree and it “accidentally” plopped onto their roof…..

…..or maybe I should just let Mother Nature take her course…..

I mean it is May Day…a very nature-based holiday…..

I think these pines might be considered “widowmakers”…and cutting them down is way above my pay grade…and my budget…..

I got a quote of $10,000.00 to take everything down that they suggested…..

So all in all…today’s a day to think about Spring…and Maypoles…and Chainsaws…..

…..and the budget…..

Planning is good…..

You know…maybe after the widowmakers are taken down…I should consider composting along the pasture line between us and “the neighbors”…..(?)

I know Beau and Clover would help…and their compost contributions would be limited-palette…and eco-friendly…..

…..anyway…it’s a thought…..
