I had forgotten to mention…..

…..with my older daughter’s recent fence repairs…..

Claire has been put into the same pasture with Brave…once again…..

…..for obvious reasons…..

If you count a mare’s months of gestation on your fingers and toes…..

…..you’ll come up with about eleven months (give or take)…..

…..and it’s that “give or take” and wondering when the baby will actually arrive…that makes me loose my stomach lining and pull out my hair…..

Actually she was put in with Brave on January 20th…so the count needs to start from there…..

Brave likes his privacy…I never seen anything “productively amorous” happening out in the pasture…..

…..but he’s produced foals whenever given the opportunity…..

…..(maybe after we get the surveillance cameras fixed…and the night-vision is working again…I’ll see some action)…..

…..(geez…that sounds a bit pervy)…..

But I’m really glad Brave has company again…..

He’s such a sensitive boy…even though he’s this big/huge stallion…he’s really a teddy bear…..

…..he eats his feelings and is profoundly deep…..

After Finley died so abruptly & tragically last summer…Brave was shook up and very very lonely…..

He’s seen too many of his herd die since the April of 2018…..

But we couldn’t put Claire in with him until the cooler months…because we didn’t want her or her baby suffering through the heat…..

Again…if you do the math…eleven months gestation will put a baby (hopefully) in January…or February…..

The low’s have been in the forties the last few days…this would be an ideal time for foaling…..

Keeping a foal warm here in sunny Florida is easier than cooling him/her down…plus draft horse babies are always born with wooly Mammoth coats…..

…..(no matter what temperate-zone they’re in)…..

Happily…Claire is Brave’s cuddle-buddy again………….and that’s a good thing…..

A quick brushing of her tail recently told me that they’re getting along just fine…..

So maybe in eleven months………….
