We should have four (original) Black Runner Ducks…

So when I only counted three of the silly birds running around the pasture…….

…..I got concerned…..

It meant (most probably) one of two things…….

…..Number #1…..that one of the ducks had gotten off’ed…….

…..or…..

…..Number #2…..that one of the silly duck hens had laid a clutch of eggs (somewhere)…..and was starting to set on it…….

…..and given all of the predacious/hungry critters that wander around this farm after dark…..

…..leaving a silly/setting duck hen on her nest in the boonies after dark would not be a prudent decision…..

Soooooooooooooooooooo…..

…..I decided I had to scour the adjacent woods to see where said-duck had made her nest…..

Which is what I did…..

From past experience I’ve found that if I watch the remaining birds’ behaviour…….

…..they ultimately let you know where the silly hen has made her nest…….

…..so I waited…..

…..and I watched…..

…..and I followed the other ducks…..

…..across the road…..

…..and into the woods…..

…..and under the scrub…..

…..and under more bracken…..

…..and under yet more scrub…..

…..until I FINALLY discovered where the errant-duck had made her nest…..

…..silly duck…..

…..silly…..silly…..duck…..

It’s an up-hill battle trying to fight Mother Nature…..

Mother Nature always wins…..

I guess that’s the way it was meant to be…..

But for now…….

…..I’ve found this silly bird…….

…..and I can keep her safe in the coop tonight…….
