When it rains………….it pours…..

Well…along with the arrival of Killian’s litter…the goats started kidding…..

Killian & babies…

…..and kidding…and birthing…and kidding…..

Remember the post where I wrote about Trooper being in a stall with a damaged door…and that hole kept getting bigger…and bigger…..

Storm Trooper

And it was over-looked…and ignored…and over-looked some more…..

And finally…Trooper just walked through it?…..

And then he romped and had fun with ALL the ladies?…..

…..we weren’t 100% sure that Trooper was fertile…..

…..But We Are Now…..

EVERY DOE has already kidded or is obviously pregnant and will kid shortly…..

At this point all the girls have had twins or triplets…..

We currently have a boo-koodle amount of babies bouncing around in the nursery-stall…..

So far everyone has kidded…with the exception of Irma…and she’s obviously pregnant too…..

Irma has “bagged up”…

At present there are nine babies…some are Boer-X’s…others are full Dairy…..

…..all of the full dairy goat babies are grade not purebred…(but the milk tastes just as good)…..

Where Trooper is a full Saanen…Irma…Snickers…and Cami are grade (cross-bred) dairy does…(they have brown-trimmed American Dairy Goat Association registration papers versus the purebred/blue-trimmed registrations)…..

Snickers is half Alpine…

The ADGA is the registering body for all dairy goats here in this country…..

So this year our goat herd has done an exponential jump in numbers…my daughters have already disbudded (de-horned) all but two of the current youngsters.

Those two are the youngest and need a couple more days…but baby goats grow their horns very very quickly…..

Like I said…Irma is the only doe who has not kidded yet…AND…it’s glaringly obvious that Trooper is not shooting blanks…..

We have our hands full with puppies and goat kids…we are keeping an eye on two of the does…..

Normally kidding occurs without complications…but…it’s good to be aware of anything that feels “off”…..

Instinct is something not to ignore on a farm…..
