Just Another Day…

Just Another Day…

Today started out the way most days start out…

Brave At The Bucket Tree

I got cracked on the head when I was dumping feed into the buckets for the drafts.

Addy

Addy was so excited about her breakfast, that she swung her head up over mine, trying to get to her meal faster.

She successfully hit me in the head with her cement-like-jawbone…

Immediately after that, I had to medicate Claire’s legs from where the summer flies have created a couple of weeping sores…

I put my “super goop” on them while my younger daughter was holding Claire for me.

Claire & Brave

Claire was being petulant, and kept snapping her hind leg up & out of the way (it’s always the hind legs, isn’t it?).

I ultimately got the goop on her far leg…………and then mostly got the near leg covered…….

Why Is There A Dancing Cat In This Picture?

…….that’s when she whipped that leg up and kicked me on the back of my thigh & calf while I was trying to pirouette out of the way…….

…….she sure can be laser-fast with those massive platter-sized-hooves!!…….

Nope, Claire…….we can’t have ANY OF THAT!!

…….I still have a fairly decent right hook (who am I kidding/I have a great right hook & a decent jab)………….which I used on her repeatedly………….(not that she even noticed…)

Claire was more concerned about me yelling at her like the Swamp-Hag-Banshee I profess to be…

Me, however?…..I felt it…

I  ended up dislocating the end joint on my ring finger (again)…….right where it had been broken before by Annie (my first Percheron) pinning my hand against a tree trunk……

…….there’s a pattern forming here isn’t there?…

My Infamous Missing Work Gloves

(BTW——-most horse people have knobbly/twisted/nasty knuckles from being in close proximity to bolting/rearing/kicking horses)…….it’s not just me.

Just ask Mary Constance.

Logan And Me?……..We’re Buds

…..But unlike those who are skeletally-immature (see:  ***Re-setting Joints***)……I chose to re-located my finger joint…….it’s not that difficult…….there’s already an easy/calcified/arthritic groove to follow.

But wait…….there’s more…

Sweetie In The Mud

Just a little later (after getting mud-slimed by the pigs while feeding them)………I got to crunch eleven carpenter ants on my bee hives without getting stung once…….yippee!

…….it rained a lot yesterday and I had just put in new sugar-syrup for the bees…….

…….so it wasn’t a big stretch that it would attract ants…….(they do crunch so nicely.)

Fortunately I had my index finger to use to smoosh the ants…….my ring finger wasn’t really up to it…

Diatomaceous Earth To Reduce Ants & Varroa Mites Under The Bee Hives

Afterwards I sprinkled diatomaceous earth under the hives…….it will kill the ants AND any Varroa mites who fall through the bottom-screen boards of the hives…….(the bees don’t go down there).

~~~~~~~then I went inside & collapsed in a puddle on the couch.
And that’s how my day began……………………..how’s your day going, Pascal?
  1. That story is why I never got a horse. It’s also why I will not walk behind a horse unless I know I’m out of firing range. Some of the horse people give me grief. “Just walk right behind them, as close as you can get”. Uh, no. I know what else could come flying out. When you decided to become an athletic trainer, I’ll bet that it never occurred to you that at some point in your life, you would be your own continuous patient, per se. Punching a draft horse seems to be in the neighborhood of trying to punch down a brick wall.
