It’s here…..

Halloween is a fun Holiday…and I’ve discovered I can get a lot done during this twenty-four hour period of time…..

It probably because of the excessive levels of sugar spinning through my metabolism…..

It’s an annual internal battle that I have with myself…..

Do I eat the Trick or Treat candy?………….or Don’t I?…..

During August and September…I always say that I am NOT going to over-do the refined sugar intake (again)…..

I always say these things to myself with conviction………….both in my head and out loud…..

And then…I buy my first bag of Halloween candy…..

…..and my resolve hangs in the balance…by a very thin tattered thread…..

But my resolve doesn’t swing in the breeze of indecision for very long…..

…..who am I kidding?…..

I currently have two big bags of Halloween candy in the bat cauldron…(doesn’t everyone have a cast iron bat cauldron?)…..

…..they were “Assortments”…..

I have noticed that the “Assortment” aspect has dwindled…I believe my younger daughter has made her preferences known…..

She has cleared out all the boxes of DOTS and the SLO-POKES…..

…..just the DUM-DUMS and the CHARMS lollipops are left…and a couple of BLOW-POPS…..

It’s not like we’re leaving the dregs in the candy bowl for the Trick or Treat’ers…..

Because we don’t get any (Trick or Treat’ers)…..

We’re too far out in the boonies…it’s genuinely scary out here after dark…(and sometimes even before dark)…..

Within the last few months there have been genuine sightings of an overly-familiar black bear…as well as a Florida panther…and don’t get me started on all the coyotes…..

As the crow flies…they were only about a half mile from us…..

…..that’s too close…..

So…I mean it when I say…it’s truly scary here after dark…..

Plus the houses are so far apart…and the driveways are so long…..

…..and at this point…all that the Trick or Treat’ers would score would be a couple DUM-DUM’s (mostly the sour apple flavored ones)…..

I ask you…is it worth risking life & limb for a few tart suckers?…..

*****I have a confession to make*****

I haven’t been totally truthful with my daughters…..

…..the two assortment bags of Halloween candy were Not the only ones that I brought home…..

I am ashamed to say (not really) that I bought a third bag…..

…..and it may have stayed in my closet…in the laundry hamper…..

And it might contain some of my favorite candies…..

But I’m also old & experienced enough to know…that if I intend to score in the foot race with my younger daughter…where candy and refined sugar is at stake…..

…..then I’m going to have to tilt the Odds in My Favor…and Up My Game…..

Hence the bag of candy under the dirty laundry…..

I’m not proud…but I have successfully guarded my Halloween stash…for another year…..

Anyone want a pomegranate flavored DUM-DUM?…(I know I don’t)…we’ve got a lot of ’em…..
