…….it was an even darker and more ominous night in the forest…….

…….it was an even darker and more ominous night in the forest…….

Suellen made it…….

She lived to tell the world…….

…..well, only after she drove another five miles on firm ground to where there were adequate cell phone bars…….

…..the rest of us were all stuck out in the boonies, way back in the woods…….

…..Suellen had been able to radio back to us using the radio for the Huntsman and the Whipper-Ins…

…..we now knew that there were vehicles totally blocking the exit for the rest of the trucks, horse trailers, and various vehicles…….

…..and they needed towing…….

*****Now  Is  The  Time  For  An  Honest  Disclaimer*****

…………………where I have a humungous winch mounted on the front of my V-8 engine truck…………………

???????????—I Have NO Idea—???????????

(that doesn’t mean I know how to use it)

(BTW…….I don’t…)

But………….I was about to have a very professional/crash course in Mud-Winching #101.

I easily & willingly handed my truck keys to our Huntsman’s husband…….

…..I crawled into the co-pilot seat…….

…..(because I knew I could be just so super helpful there)…….

…..and I proceeded to learn about winching, and “feathering” the accelerator, and towing people through (what felt like) ten miles of very narrow, mud-trenched, foot-paths, in the dark…….at 276 mph…….backwards…

………….I had the best time EVER!!!!!

My teacher was fantastic…….

He could haul-ass backwards, stay on the narrow lane…….

My Truck’s Review/Side Mirror (the day after)-(on the way to the Ball)

…..and do all of this while only looking through the opened/mud-covered/sliding window over the back seat of the truck…….

…..the winch worked…….

…..trucks attached to horse trailers were hauled to passable roads…….

…..I do have to say…..during one of the high-speed (backward) towing segments of the rented mini-van…..at one point…..the poor little mini-van went up the very high sides of the berm at the side of the access road…….

…..it really looked like it was teetering and about to tip on its side…….

…..BUT that was not the time for the faint of heart…….

Our Master’s Vehicle

…..my truck’s driver quickly accelerated…..with a resulting quick jerk of the tow cable…..and the mini-van stopped wobbling and came back to the muddy slop in the bed of the road where it belonged…….

…..I did hear squeals from inside the mini-van throughout its weaving process…….

…..WHAT  A  WILD  RIDE!…..

At the time, I’m sure it seemed like the worst possible amusement park ride…….

…..but WHAT A TAKE-HOME MEMORY!

*******After this last wild-towing-extravaganza…….ALL of the remaining trucks and horse trailers were able to make it out…….

That’s My Truck At The Side Of The Road

…..there was a lot of slinging mud…….a lot of WHOO! HOO’s! as each truck passed us…….and (ultimately) got out…

…..we did leave one of our Hunt Club member’s pristine/clean/new Volvo there for the night…….

…..its owner intended to return later, when “sea-level” subsided, to drive her car out…….

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All in all……..it was a WILD night in the woods!
As each individual vehicle, truck, & trailer got out…….they all waited on the high/dry ground until everyone was out and accounted for…….
Even though our Hunt Club can be a large-dysfunctional family…….
…..when the going gets tough…….
…..we all pitch in and stick together…….
…..we left the forest in the dark/dead of night…….
…..we all got home just a little before midnight…….
…..and when all is said and done…….
…..I Love This Club…….
  1. You need to go back when it is dry and look at the ruts. It sounds like you had the good fortune that one of your members knew what he was doing. The winch is actually the easy part, it’s the driving out with something on the winch, as you now know, that is the real skill. Everyone should thank you for having a big-ass winch and truck that could be used to tow. Even if you don’t know how it works. I’m guessing that he had done that a time or two.
