Irma’s Clean-Up———On & On & On

Irma’s Clean-Up———On & On & On

“The Irma Effect”

Everyone is tired.  There’s still more to do…………..there’s always more to do.  Everything would be so much easier if this was all happening in November’s cooler/dryer weather.  But the temperature is in the 90’s and the humidity level has got to be 246%+.  If it weren’t for all of the suspended, microbial algae in the air—–this could probably qualify for an expensive spa/steam-room treatment…………..but you can’t charge for this soggy treat.  My lungs are an agar-filled, petri dish for the flora & fauna that’s saturating every molecule of air.

My Bush Hog

I would love to rev-up our tractor with its new bushhog, but the ground is too boggy and there’s so much downed-debris that needs to be picked up first………………….so in a nutshell, there’s work on top of work.

AND we are so much luckier than some.  My heart goes out to them……….

And then there’s that activity out in the Atlantic that is catching our attention out of the corner of our eye………………………AND the meteorologists just told us that for our region the height of the Hurricane Season isn’t really mid-September………………….it’s more like mid-October-ish.

Come On!!!!  You can’t just change the rules in the middle of the game!————-but wait, this is Mother Nature’s game—————soooooooooooooooooo, she is the referee here & it IS her game.  I’ll just keep my jersey on and keep my cleats tightly laced up and just keep playing the game…………….but I would prefer to take my soccer ball and go home.

Jose has swirled to the north in the Atlantic after doing pirouettes for a while out there in the middle of the ocean.  Now there’s Lee, but somehow or another Lee got usurped by Maria.  Lee’s not on the sidelines, by no means.  But somehow Maria (who I need to point out is after Lee alphabetically) weaseled her way in front of Lee.  Geez-Louise—–the Caribbean islands can’t take any more of this…………………………

We started a burn pile today.  Even though everything is wet (very wet) and there is a little wind———-I believe it’s highly unlikely for floating sparks or ash to start anything.  But better safe than sorry.  We’ll sit out there and chaperone Boom-Boom-the-Bonfire.

Geez,  there sure are a lot of downed trees to burn.  It will take us a long, long time to scorch through everything.  So, I need to make this more fun……………..perhaps a lounge chair, Doritos, salsa & crossword puzzles.  (See, how I didn’t mention anything about mediocre Bourbon and Coke———because that would be very irresponsible, now wouldn’t it?…………………..Yes, that would be very, very irresponsible indeed.)

I have to admit, I did take the irresponsible, easy-route of getting the wet wood started…………………it might have had something to do with an impromptu, Molotov cocktail-water bottle half-filled with gasoline—–tucked down in the middle of the pile of wood.

Don’t judge me.  It worked.  At least this time I didn’t singe all the hair off my arms.  And it’s been a long time since I burned off most of my eyebrows.  So see—– I’m improving & honing my talents.

Is there something wrong with liking the smell of burned hair?  I do like smoke smell in general……………………..well………………….we’ll just gloss over that oddity and save that introspection for another time (maybe even never).  I mean I don’t explode things………….just a little charring now and then.

I need a “Burn-Pile” Play-List……………….I’ll have to give that some serious thought…………….”We Didn’t Start the Fire” (yes, we did);   “Burning Down the House” (we try not to);  “Fire & Rain” (exactly what happened this afternoon);  “Sex on Fire” (please);  “Burn” (a given); “Chariots of Fire” (in slo-mo)…………………….and of course we can’t leave out;  “Light My Fire” (ah, the Sixties & Seventies!)……………….well that was easier than I thought.

Tomorrow———more burning.  We don’t need any extra-potential-flying-wooden-projectiles should Lee/Maria/or Zinnia decide to blow in our direction.
