Hunt Season Is Around The Corner

Hunt Season Is Around The Corner

Fox Hunting In Florida

Tra!  La!

Soon…….the 2019/2020 Hunt Season will begin.

Our Fox Hunt

In fact, this coming weekend is our Annual Business Meeting.

It’s like the unofficial kick-off of the Hunt season.

Our Fox Hunt

Even though it’s still beastly hot…….it’s good to know that fox hunting is just around the corner.

Yippee!     Tra!  La!     Yahoo!     Zippity Cricket!     I’m Happy!

I’m getting a jump on the season’s start by clipping and grooming Addy for the up-coming Hunts.

Suzanne-Annette is coming over this week to help me clip Addy along with Claire.

Claire Getting Used To The Shoeing Stock

We’ll be using the shoeing stock.

And we’ll be removing all their feathering & whiskers & extra Clydesdale-fuzzies.

Why are Clydesdales so hairy?

Claire’s Hairy Chin

I mean, their jawline has a mane…….their chin has more whiskers than mine does.

Their belly line has guard hairs that are over four inches long.

Addy

The backs of their thighs have the same extra, braid-able guard hairs (?)

And we all know about their luxurious leg and hoof feathers………….(sigh)

Not so luxurious in a Florida summer of mud/humidity/& heat.

Clydesdale’s feathers are beautiful.

For years I put long hours into trying to maintain my Clydesdale’s leg feathers…

…….now I’ve finally taken Mary Constance’s advice and I just shave them off.

That succinctly takes care of just about everything.

Otherwise, Clydesdales (or any “feathered” breed) can develop dermatologic-health issues.

These include mites, fungus, & infections.

If you look up “Mud Fever”, “Scratches”, “Pastern Dermatitis”, “Greasy Heel”,
“Rain Scald”,  “Foot Garbage” (that’s my name)…….you’ll find a gazillion ways to deal with it…….

But I made up my own…….so now there’s a gazillion-and-one:

~~~~~~~Swamp Hag’s Goop~~~~~
—–Base product:  3 lbs. tub of shortening (generic Crisco)…….(I don’t like petroleum-chemical-based products)…….(shortening is more natural & it lubricates the skin nicely—and does not attract flies—and washes off more easily).
—–Newspaper on kitchen table…….(I learned the hard way).
—–Surgical gloves for mixing (I never use them)…….(it all doesn’t mix together easily, but do the best you can).
—–Add everything listed below to shortening tub (you have to remove a few glops/save it to add back later…..I learned that the hard way too)…..(my kitchen walls stand witness to that).
—–About 3/4 Cup (or more) of Rosebush Sulphur Dusting Powder (Amazon purchase).
—–About two Tablespoons of Citronella Oil (Jeffer’s Livestock Catalog).
—–About…..hmmmmmmm…..that much Tea Tree Oil.
—–As much Colloidal Silver as you can mix in with your hands…….(1 1/2 Cups ?).
—–And finally…….about “that” much Neem & Cade & Peppermint Oils respectively.
(All of these weird oils can be ordered from ***Bulk Apothecary***)
It’s good goop…….
It works…….
(FYI—Take off any sterling silver jewelry…….I learned that the hard way too)-(all my jewelry is now black)
Tally Ho!!!
  1. I have just got to come back to Fla, if for no other reason than to see you in your formal English fox hunting attire. There are two versions of our Ozark equivalent to your fox hunt. Both are coon hunts. One they take their guns, dogs and lights and actually hunt. The second and most common, is they take their guns, dogs, lights and a bunch of booze, let the dogs run and sit around a fire getting drunk with zero hunting.
    1. Yep, it does. The peppermint oil helps soothe the itching. The sulphur powder kills mites, dries & clears fungus, and who knows what else. I don’t actually know what the Cade & Neem oils do…….but a lot of similar horse products have them as ingredients, so I added them too. Citronella oil is to keep bugs away…….and we all know I am a huge proponent of colloidal silver (even good in Jell-O shots). And tea tree oil is the panacea for the world…….and Jell-O shots…….kidding.
          1. Absinthe, other than that I don’t know.I knew about neem because a dog rescuer told me about it. They use neem shampoo for strays after they kill all of the fleas, ticks, etc. to relieve the itch from the bites. The fox hunt must be around STL or K.C. I have never heard of one around here.
