~~~Horse Thieves~~~
Brave & Claire
Just like I need more to worry about.
Apparently there are horse thieves in our area.
Social media and the regular daily news has been helping with information.
Brave & Claire
As gruesome as it sounds, there was at least one horse (a little south of us) who disappeared and was later found in a field as a butchered carcass.
What is wrong with people?
Anja With Her New Halter & Lead Rope
The advice that’s being circulated is not to leave leads near the stalls or halters on your horses.
This week a barn that was within five miles of us had some very unusual occurrences going on.
Our Barn’s Security System
The equestrian center manager saw trespassers on their security cameras this last Wednesday, and he was able to scare “them” away when they started harassing the horses.
Our Front Door
This same horse facility had seen the same people scoping out their barn earlier that Monday.
Additionally about fifteen miles up the road, another barn had a similar issue…
Our High Tech Pasture…….(I have No idea what the white spots are…..Oh…..it was starting to rain)
In the morning the owner found rope burns on a few of her horses’ necks.  Some had bloodshot eyes…..(maybe from struggling?)
There were nicks and scrapes on some of the horses too, along with long/training leads strewn around on the ground (this barn doesn’t keep the regular leads or their horses’ halters near their stalls).
Used hay bags were left in the breezeway…..(maybe to entice the horses out of their stalls?)…..and open bags of carrots were everywhere.
Her electrical breaker box/main switch had been turned off, and this barn’s owner found three sets of distinctly different human footprints…….one woman and two men.
Plus her two guard dogs looked like they had been in a rough confrontation…….but she was quite sure they had left their marks on the intruders too…….
I Need An Outside Guard Dog
…..so, am I more than normally paranoid right now?…..
~~~~~Well here’s a fun little additive~~~~~

…..about a week ago when Paulo was gone/visiting his father…….I woke up for some reason at about 2:30am…….

…..not to let the situation go to waste…….I walked down to the bathroom…….

Our Monitor At Work

…..while passing the surveillance cameras’ monitor, I noticed Brave pacing “unusually” (for the middle of the night) and looking towards the road…

…..so barefooted & in my P.J.’s, I went outside to check on him and the mares…..

Our Front Yard

…..they were all fine…..the mares came right over to the gate (unusual)…..but Brave kept looking over my shoulder…..

…..so I followed his gaze out to the road (close by our driveway)…..

…..and there were tail lights of a vehicle parked on the side of the road…..

…..all I had was my telephone flashlight…..

…..so I trained the beam in their direction…..they would know that I couldn’t see them or any details of their vehicle…….but they would also know that I knew they were there…..

…………………and then they drove away…………………

I had thought little of that occurrence until my older daughter told me about the “attacks”(?) that I explained above…..

So now, we’ve taken off the horse’s halters…….I’m sleeping even less soundly…….and I have my cell phone on the nightstand where I can check the cameras anytime throughout the night…

Full Wolf Moon

In hindsight, I’d like to point out that yet again there I am…..outside…..by myself…..barefoot…..in the dark…..in the boonies…..minimally clothed…..defending the farm……..

I realize that’s a mistake…..

Our Back Yard

…..and it won’t happen again…..

Next time, I won’t be so foolish…..

I’m nobody’s victim.

I’ll make sure I have my 38…..
