*****Hairy Clydesdales*****

*****Hairy Clydesdales*****

I know I’ve mentioned this before…

…..but it warrants another comment or two…….

Clydesdale’s are hairy creatures…….!

And I don’t know why or what the purpose is of all of the extra fur…….?

I was leading Claire up for the vet the other day…….

…..and I just couldn’t resist snapping these pictures…….

Claire’s Moostachio

…..her mustache was just so pretty and pristine and curly and ample…….!

Claire

Clydesdales and Shires have beautiful and luxurious feathers…..(that need A LOT of constant scrubbing and cleaning)

Me Scissoring Off Addy’s Feathers—Then Later I’ll Use Clippers For A Closer Shave…

I really don’t have the time…….

On any given day, I probably haven’t even brushed my own hair…….

…..maybe I’ve brushed my teeth…….

…..maybe not…

Hairy Claire

But the chin hair and the belly/mid-line hair…….

Ruby

…..not to mention the hair hanging off their hind leg hamstrings…….!

You know, usually there is a purpose to Mother Nature’s evolution with animals (and us)…

I’ve been told that in future thousands or millions of years that we will no longer have our little toes or fingers, as they aren’t really necessary…….

…..okay…..I get that…….

Claire’s Pretty Mustache

…..so…..why do Clydesdales’ have mustaches?…….

Claire

…..to filter their soup when they sip it out of a tureen…….?

…..I could understand needing the leg feathers…..maybe…..if they lived in a very brushy/scrubby area and it was for leg protection…….

…..but a mustache?…….?

Nice Curl, Huh?…….Not To Mention The Ample Chin Hair(!?!)

  1. I read the opinion that horses can have mustaches due to increased testosterone, as women have increased hairiness. But nevertheless, I have not met an answer supported by facts, why do they need them =)

  2. Horses grow a moustache so that they can feel the grass and differentiate between the types of grass. This allows them to graze easier in poor light and conditions. It’s more commonly seen in native horse breeds that have to scratch about to find the best grass.
