Green Quarters

Green Quarters

Should quarters be green…………………..?

…….I really don’t think so…

You know how you have that jar of coins where you toss extra change?

I recently had to move my coin jar for cleaning.

I thought it was odd that so many of the coins inside looked green.

So I investigated……………………………………………………………………………..sigh…

I Couldn’t Get The Green Off

They were green…….and some were white & corroded…

But most were green………….and moist…………..(moist coins?……..that’s never good—–right?)

………….(you know I sniffed them)………….but, they did NOT smell of cat pee.

But how did they get green and moist…….(very moist)…(?)

…….maybe I just don’t want to know…….

…….somethings are better left a mystery…….

(But I have to try visualizing a cat perched on the edge of a big pickle jar—–there’s a lot of point controlled involved—–you have to give them credit for that……………..ah, nope)

I now have the coins spread out on paper towels on the kitchen table to dry…

…….(you have to be cautious eating here)…….

…….(I do intend to disinfect the table afterwards)…….

Currently I’m drying them one by one…….both sides…….the green’s not coming off.

I have A LOT of better things to be doing with my time………….but there are a gazillion green quarters here!

A lot of green 1977 quarters.

It might have been more applicable to have my third wedding band made out of a cat-pee-saturated quarter, wouldn’t you think?

I’ll throw a few moth balls in the jar…

*****Note to self:  Keep the lid securely on the jar between coin tosses*****

  1. Don’t know about the wet, but the green is a most likely a chemical reaction from what tiny amount of copper still is used in pennies and the other metals in different coins. The wet is too I guess. Pennies now are mostly zinc btw, and toxic to dogs, my vet warned me about pennies and puppies.. Pennies cost MORE to make than they are worth, they should be removed from our money, at this point in time they are useless besides being a money drain on the taxpayer.
