I was watching L92……………………..then L93…………………I think I recently saw L96……………..my meteorological jargon improves with each Hurricane Season.

There’s already been the devastation of Harvey.  I started this posting as a draft when Gertie was magnetizing our attention.  Now there’s Irma. She’s growing and milling around out there to the right in the Atlantic.  There are highs and lows and currents and moon phases to consider………………and we (the little humans) think we have control over so much on our little blue planet.            HA!

We are only spectators here and maybe we are allowed an eensie-weensie bit of input……………………..at best.

Years ago, I remember wiping the ashes from the eruption of Mount St. Helen from the windshield of my car when I was in the Palisadium Spa’s parking lot in Cliffside Park, New Jersey.  I’ve prepared and waited for Hurricane Katrina.  And then felt relieved and subsequently felt so very guilty—–when she passed us by—–but hit the land and the people of the Louisiana coast instead.

A few years back, I recall warnings of dust & sand clouds making it across the Atlantic Ocean to us here from an exceptionally large sand-storm in the Sahara Desert!  Now I am watching the on-going, bulldozing destruction from Hurricane Harvey………………………….and then there’s Irma waiting in the wings…………………….and then more “things” behind her.

We have an entire alphabet to go.  We are only at “I” and it’s just the beginning of September………………….not too many years ago (2005), we went all the way through the alphabet and started over with a secondary protocol of names…………….I believe “they” started again with Grecian names or something like that……………..I can’t really recall.

You have a tendency to blank those sort of things at your first opportunity.

My hurricane closet/pantry is mostly ready.  Gasoline prices are going up, because of the refineries in the Houston area needing to be shut down with the advent of Harvey.  We are glued to the European hurricane-track-mapping forecast as well as the U.S. hurricane-track-mapping forecast.  Here in Florida, we call them the “spaghetti models”.  They are the projected, potential routes of the various storms and hurricanes………………….and they really do look like a handful of pasta slung across the map of the Atlantic Ocean.

The “scammers” are already breaking out of their roach-casings in the aftermath of Harvey.  Do they sit around the dining room tables to hatch these plans to take advantage of suffering people?  Do they sleep easily?

Again, here’s an applicable quote:  “man’s inhumanity to man”.  It seems to apply here very well.  I just checked to see who said it…………………..Robert Burns.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  I seem to make reference to him quite often.  I’ve inadvertently done it once before in another blog post.  Maybe I should actually learn more about his writings?  I’m not sure I have ever “officially” read his work.

I know my premise in writing my posts is that this is supposed to be a humorous blog.  But when in this sort of breath-holding time-period———-while on-hold & watching every weather report with abated breath……………………………..there’s really no desire to let funny happen.

But I can point out some really great things that have come about.  A number of popular athletes and entertainers have been generous and started donation-challenges.  I’ve seen human-chains rescuing the infirm and infants, while strangers help stranded livestock.  I’ve watched groups of people lift people in wheelchairs to dry safety.

…………………………..but then there’s a Houston-based, religious megalopolis whose doors were locked as Harvey hit.  Its big, huge, potential refuge remained closed and empty……………..I didn’t film the video………………I just watched it……………….sigh.

Money doesn’t buy goodness.

Irma is still thousands of miles away.  Harvey is still swirling, but spinning itself down.  September is a very busy, meteorological month; still full of powerful, frightening potential………………………….and Mother Nature is somewhere sitting in an over-stuffed armchair, tating away, making pretty doilies———

We are just here for a short visit.
