Farm Repair Update

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps**********

We’ve been working hard on the farm…the outside weather still remains tolerable-ish…..

But sunstroke…dehydration…are just around the corner once again…..

General exposure to the sun in our sub-tropical hostile environment…(which we lovingly call a Florida Summer)…is almost here………….(Yippee!)…..

But there’s always a lot that needs to be done…regardless of the heat…..

We’ve gotten all the gate repair done…(plus I’ve got a good inventory of spare gates–for the big limbs that are just waiting to fall)…..

We’ve mowed and prepared most of the pasture…and hacked…hewed…and thwacked down as much of the mega-dog fennel as humanly possible…..

We’ve attacked the pervasive stubborn stinging nettles and plucked the Latex Fruit from its vines anywhere we can find them…..

My daughter and I have hammered in additional T-posts…to keep the Clydesdales exactly where we want them (theoretically)…for when they return…..

*******But Wait*****There’s More*******

The impromptu late night rendez vous with Mister (or Misses) Opossum made the repair of the coop a primary importance…..

We all know…Mister Possum will be back………….(damned persistent marsupial)…..

So…yep…I had to fix the coop…..

We have two coops…one with a drawbridge for the free range chickens (and ducks)…and one with a door…for the Maran purebreds…..

…..and of course…Mister Marsupial went for the expensive coop with the purebreds…..

Subsequently…I first made sure the fence charger was unplugged…..

…..(and yes…I have been know to try “the dance” of repairing the electric fence in and around the electric pulses)…..

…..(I don’t recommend it)…..

As challenging & fun as it sounds…it makes for poor repair work–and innumerable shouted expletives…..

So I got to work replacing insulators…cleaning contact points…and fixing grounded out wires…..

And lo and behold…..

…..re-connecting the primary wire at the source (the one that innervates the electric pulsing around both coops) seemed to have fixed the problem…..

…..(Silly Us!)…..

Now while I’m in bed at night…I’m eagerly waiting to hear that pleasing “grunt and thud”…..

Electric Fence Tester…(the coops really have a good charge now)…

Because that’s when Mister (or Misses) Possum puts his (or her) moist nose on the “live” wire…and subsequently hits the ground…..

…..judge me if you must…..

But I’m old…and crotchety…with a warped sense of humor…and I take my poultry seriously…..
