~~~Farm Husbandry…….(with the husband)~~~
This last weekend was productive…
Some key projects really needed addressing…
They were all a decrepit/rotted mess…
…..beyond decrepit…
Fence repair is ALWAYS high on the list…
Fences are never perfect…
Fences always need fixing…
Did you know those elves or pixies who live in everyone’s dryer……the ones who steal and/or eat all of those spare socks…….?
…..well, I’m positive their second cousins are the fence-gnawing gnomes…
I’m sure those beasties live in a dead stump out back in our swamp…….
…..they always have a crew working on fence demolition in the dead of night…
…..I just know these things are happening…….
But as important as fence repair is…….
…..we had two other projects which took priority…….
…..because they were so bad.
———————Numero Uno———————
The Buck Pen Fell Down…….(?)
…..well in all fairness, it had been falling down for awhile…….
…..last summer I had asked Paolo to fix the shed-roof over the pig’s enclosure…….
…..that roofing is (was) attached to the buck’s pen on a shared wall…….
We subsequently ran through a couple seasons…..from last Summer ’til now (in the Spring).
…..ultimately…..last week…..the 4″ x 4″ corner posts just rotted through and fell over…….
…..(here’s a funny little aside)…..they fell over on my older daughter…….
…..she was pinned (temporarily) under the 16′ welded-metal-panel…….
…..(maybe that shouldn’t have been all that funny…….she didn’t think so)
…..(farm humor has its quirks)…….
…..so as I’m sure you’ve guessed…….all of the the bucks got out…….
…..and now (after their caprine-frolic) ALL of the does are most probably pregnant…….
…..ah, Springtime…….
…..everything and everyone is thinking about woo-woo…
~~~~~So that was Project #1~~~~~
~~~~~Enter Project #2~~~~~
The paddock behind the barn needed some MAJOR repair ASAP…….
…..two out of four sides had rotted posts…….one of which had Poppy’s gate attached to it…….
…..hay string was holding the gate up and secured to the wobbly post…….
…..again (because it is springtime)…….making the gate more secure was an absolute must…….
…..else-wise Poppy would be inclined to want to push it all over and go and “visit” Brave…
…..(it wouldn’t have been the other way around…….Brave is pretty clueless…….and there’s a whopping/huge/strong/pulsing electric fence in the way…….
…..I swear a couple of the (temporary?) posts (that Paolo dug in to hold things over while he went to England) were only in the ground about eight inches…..I could lift them out by hand…….
…..Paolo is not happy with my critiquing his fence-post-digging-expertise…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, with the repaired buck-pen being able to secure the bucks from the now pregnant does…….
And the paddock being re-secured to keep Poppy away from Brave and untangled in the dangerous/downed wire…….
The weekend wound to a close…….
Paolo is not happy with my overt-critiquing or my depth-evaluations of his new/slanted posts…….
…..but after almost forty-three years of our blissful partnership…….
…..we’ll both survive the verbal-mutual-shrapnel…….
