Here it is…the first of May…and this is traditionally Florida’s “dry season”…..

But this year it’s exceptionally & exceedingly dry…..

We are in the middle of a dramatic drought…..

I friend just told me that this is the worst drought in a Really Really long time (1890?)…..

Everything is crispy and crunchy and dry…..

And to state the obvious…there’s a strict “No Burn Ban” in place…..

Everyone is taking it seriously…(except for some brain-challenged neighbor…because I can smell smoke coming from somewhere)…..

All it takes is some idiot with a match…or a cigarette butt…or a spark from some motor…and things will immediately become marshmallow toasting time…..

This drought needs to be taken seriously…..

Fortunately our water well hasn’t been affected…we still have ample fresh water…..and all of our water troughs are full…..

I even noticed quite a few honey bees drinking from our tanks…(probably my bees…from past hive departures…and I don’t want to talk about it…damned judgy bees…had to leave the nice homes I had provided for them…and now they’re coming back for water…why?…weren’t we good enough the first time…huh?)…..

…..(my feelings haven’t been hurt at all…I don’t care if the bees all absconded…I don’t care at all…it’s never bothered me one bit…inconsiderate bees)…..

Where was I?…………..all the local rivers and lakes have levels that are dramatically low and very receded…..

I guess the only good news…is that so much of the submerged debris is being exposed…and some much needed cleanup is occurring…..

…..and a couple of bodies have been located too………….so there’s that…..

The swamp behind up is deceptively dry…but we know better…I know that in just a few weeks (hopefully)…when the rainy season is scheduled to begin…..

…..that swamp water will start to rise…..

I’ll be keeping my suspender waders…(that are still hanging in the garage………….I know I’ll need them again…..

Also in a few more weeks…the 2026 Hurricane Season will begin…and then I’ll begin whining and panicking about the upcoming storms and their projected paths…and those ulcer-causing “spaghetti models”…..

Life is a constant dance…if you wait long enough…it will repeat itself…but the dance always continues…..

Ooh…let’s not forget about the “Super El Niño” that’s forecasted for this summer too…..

Honestly…who knows what that will bring…I don’t think the meteorologists even know…..

So…I’ll just bide my time…prepare whenever possible…duck the spit balls…and keep moving forward…as best as I possibly can…..
