A ZAP from electric pasture fencing hurts…..

People have explained joules/and watts/and volts/and amperage/and other electrical what-nots to me…..

I never really give it much thought…..

…..except for that nano-second before an impending ZAP from an electric fence…when you know you’ve over-stepped your proximity to “the wire”…..

When I was a child…we only had livestock fencing…..

…..just big rolls of the stuff…that my father (somehow…miraculously) nailed to posts…all by himself…..

…..(*fence post staples are mean devices…meant to permanently deform fingers & fingernails & knuckles*)—(*and teach my children bad language…from me*)…..

But that livestock fencing kept all our animals where they needed to be…..

We had a split-rail fence for show…separating the back yard from the back pasture…..

…..(but it had to be reinforced with livestock fencing on the inside…or else the donkeys and sheep would shimmy through between the rails)…..

A few decades ago…with the advent of our first Belgian draft horse (Topsie)…we were introduced to the wonders of electric fencing…..

…..it looked so deceivably invisible and fragile…..

We learned from our new draft-horse-friends and mentors about the differences in gauge and metals of electric wiring (for its conductivity)…and the best uses for the variety of fence post insulators…and what type of fence charger to install…(in terms of mileage & impedance)—(and the necessity of a Lightening Arrester)…..

With a good electric fencing around a pasture…our huge/demanding draft horses…(along with our conniving/tricksy goats)…could be successfully contained…..

…..Wonders of Wonders!…..

But recently…with my cardiac “procedures”…one of my post-surgical nurses was chatting with me…and she had heard of some sort of research which said that repeated electric fencing zaps could lead to electrical/cardiac irregularities…..

…..huh?…really?…oh dear!…..

…..(if that’s the case…I’m a goner)—(I’ve been zapped SO many times)—(to infinity and beyond)…..

So I’ve started my research…..

…..it’ll be on-going…..

…..but I’ll share…..

My goat-friend & veterinarian (Doctor Brigid) mentioned that I should check into the variability of a pace-maker’s heart rate…..

…..like…will it change if I see an extraterrestrial…or if I’m chasing a loose horse…or (God forbid) jumping a rail fence?…..

…..OR…getting zapped by an electric fence?…..

See…it’s good to have advocates around you when you’re chatting with doctors…..

…..how would a doctor know your life-style?…how would a doctor understand electric fencing?…..

I’m glad I have this information now…..

I don’t know what I’m going to do with it…..

…..I do know I’m NOT going to stop chasing goats or riding horses…..

…..(apparently…all at the same heart rate…if necessary)…..
