*****Today started out early…while it was still dark…which is saying a lot…because the days are longer now…and dawn comes earlier…..

…..but tell the roosters that…..

…..(and yes…we did recently take five (5) more roosters to the auction…(we would’ve taken six…but we couldn’t find the last one…after scouring the rafters & lofts & limbs)…so we don’t know what happed to  #6…..

…..(yes we do)…..

So the mornings are less cacophonous…(there are still four roosters here)…..

…..and I still get up early…usually in the dark…(it’s the poultry’s idea of dawn)…..

*****Then it’s time for the dog-romp…and emptying out Acacias…(so he’s more indoor-appropriate)…and more likely to nap a little…..

…..and we can get things done…..

*****Then…the normal chores begin…..

…..water buckets & tanks are filled…various animal feeds are rationed out & delivered…pastures are perused…and heads are counted…..

Normally…at this point…the day’s projects begin…..

…..but not today…..

…..we are on Pied-Runner-Duck-Patrol…..

…..Duck Down!…Duck Down!…Duck Down!…..

…..(said with appropriate/corresponding submarine diving-sirens)…..

She’s probably started setting on a nest somewhere…(I’ll have to find it)…(before someone “else” finds her)…(unless they already have)…..

…..(much like the above mentioned missing rooster)………….(sigh)…..

Actually what this will entail…is…sitting on the mounting block…sipping tea (or mediocre bourbon)…and watching…..

…..and watching…and waiting…and watching some more…..

…..she’ll have to get off her nest at some point to get water…..

…..then I’ll see where she comes from…and follow her back (hopefully)…and gather & incubate her eggs…..

Yesterday…I tried to search through the brambles for her nest…to no avail…..

…..except for falling over a few times…getting my hair stuck in trees…and running from wasps…..

Doctor Brigid came over in the afternoon to visit…and we sat on the mounting block some more…..

…..and drank some more “tea”…..

…..and watched…..

*****And today………….I’ll do it again…..

Sounds monotonous doesn’t it?…..

I suppose it could…but…there’s so much to see and hear…..

Projects aren’t accomplished…but a lot is witnessed…that would otherwise be missed…the sun…the breeze…the birds…the day…..

I tried to be productive…while watching for the missing Mrs. Duck…..

…..I attempted to clean the cooker/smoker and get it ready for smoking our Memorial Day dinner…..

…..but the wasps chased me away…..

I’m undaunted…I’ll smoke the boogers out…..

…..after that…I’ll sit on the mounting block…and watch for the duck again…..

Maybe it’s not a productive activity…..

…..but hey…..

…..somebody’s got to do it…..
