Dorian
Abaco was first…….
Dorian is over the Bahamas now…….
All of the U.S. eastern coastline waits & watches…….
Dorian is just camping out over those poor islands…….

He’s so huge and so slow…….
The islands are so flat…….
It almost looks like he’s just parked right over them…….
…..I heard that the Grand Bahama Airport is under five feet of water…….
…..I knew a woman who went down to the islands to start a horse carriage business…….
…..sigh…….

I think we will be all right here on Florida’s west coast…….
…..but with that relief…….next comes guilt…….
…..you feel guilty because it’s going elsewhere…….
…..and elsewhere is someone else’s home…….
Unless the hurricane goes back out to sea…….someone’s going to get hit…..
…..somewhere…….
Paolo doesn’t have work tomorrow…..the court system is closed…
My older daughter doesn’t have school either…..the university is closed…
Fuel tankers carrying gasoline for deliveries have police escorts…

We watch…….we wait…
I just heard they are using the Daytona 500 racetrack as a staging area for utility trucks…
Even though we “think” we are all right…….
*****Hurricane Charley’s Turn*****
…..let’s not forget Charley who did a ninety degree, right-hand turn (for no reason whatsoever) and hit the Punta Gorda area of Florida instead of where it was projected to make landfall……. which was straight up Tampa Bay…
…..apparently Dorian’s winds are diminishing somewhat…….
…..they’re now sustained winds of 155 mph…….
Our meteorologist said this system is moving so slowly…….that a person could walk faster than this hurricane is moving…….(one mile per hour)
Which means we all have to wait and watch that much longer…….

One thought on “Dorian”
I didn’t bother to do much with Charley because by the time the NWS said it was coming right at us it was too late to do much except minimize flying glass.. Plus, my house , where it stood, was only built to 90 mph, as per the code then. Charley hit at 140 and we were both dead center. Neither of us would have had roofs/houses that year. Concrete block is actually a real crappy building material for high wind areas, but it’s cheap and easy, relatively. It looks like you dodged a large missile, but as it has been pointed out by meteorologists and you, a storm with the strength of Dorian sometimes has a mind of it’s own
