“Dorian” (et al) & The Bees
****NOAA’s Atlantic Update*****
What was dry in December, is not dry now…
What was dry in March, is not dry now…
The same in June…
And most of July…
But not now.
When I set up the bee hives, I picked a “higher” spot in the goat pasture…….(let’s face it—–the goat pasture is synonymous with “the back swamp”.)…….(“swamp” being the operative word)
I even put the hives up on two cement blocks.
But even without a hurricane, we are more than eleven inches above last year’s rainfall totals…….and last year was above average too…
*****Public Relations Description For Tampa*****
So, I’m making plans for potentially moving the hives before this hurricane season is over.
……………………..not something I relish thinking about……………………….
Paolo & I have discussed where they will ultimately be moved……..now we know where “the swamp” is the highest…

Plus, we are going to build a deck there to insure extra height for the beasles’ hives.
……………………..but in the meantime…
Dorian is brewing out in the Atlantic in “Hurricane Alley” and it’s anybody’s guess who’s behind him just waiting to sweep over us………….sigh…………
In the meantime that means having to temporarily lift the hives to keep them dry through this wet season.
Paolo and I will have to do this, after sunset, in the dark, when all the bees are back home and tucked in for the night.
Then I have to plug their entrances (along with any other cracks or creases they can get through).
I have two mesh hive veils to cloak their homes with (with which to cloak their homes(?)…
And after figuring out how to use it…….I have a steel-framed-thingie that is a two-person-hive-lift…
*****Hive-Carrier-Thingie*****
We intend to add an additional cement block height to their hives, to (hopefully) get through this hurricane season without their front doors being flooded.
All of this…….while working in deep, uneven, boot-sucking mud…
…….in the dark…
…….with thousands of newly awakened bees…

Nothing could possibly go wrong with this plan…………now could it?

Aren’t you already dealing with the rain from that stuck front about a week or so ago? Good luck with the bees.
