Crossword Puzzling

Crossword Puzzling

I started doing crossword puzzles a few years ago to help improve my memory…

…..and hopefully stave off dementia for awhile longer…

…..but, I can’t remember who recommended it…

…..so, I have to wonder if the puzzle’s are really doing their job…(?)…

But now, if necessary, I can easily use “etui” in a sentence———but who would choose to use “etui” in a sentence anymore—–or ever?

(BTW—–they sell them on eBay—–I had to check to see what these things were—–pricey little boogers)

~~~And “sabot”—–another handy word to know………….(and never use)
One Sabot; Two Sabot………….Red Sabot; Blue Sabot…
I use a pen rather than a pencil when I “do” my puzzles…
It’s not an indication that I’m “that” good at crosswords…
It’s just that I have no pride and I don’t care if I have to repeatedly scribble-out mistakes…
I save the crosswords from Thursday through Sunday…
(Monday through Wednesday’s are for weenies.)
And I DON’T EVER do any puzzles with any reference to a city in its title……
…..like Los Angeles or New York (Times)…..
…..those are just too tricksey for me and they make me feel very dumb…..
…..I prefer crossword puzzles with at least some sort of potential for a positive outcome and a possible improved self-worth…..
…..and when I’m done (or give up)…….(or have scratched unintelligible holes in the newspaper)…….
…..I immediately (sometimes vehemently) re-purpose them by tearing them up (sometimes overtly ¬†& ¬†passionately) and throwing them into the puppies’ cages to be used to absorb urine and/or to help them construct puppy-poo-papier-mache.
…..Yoko Ono shows up in my crossword puzzles all the time…….
…..as either the answer to: ¬†Lennon’s love………….or John’s honey…
Yoko’s a regular…
Sometimes I sail through, but more often than not I get permanently stumped three-quarters of the way through…
…..my daughter’s have learned ALL of their multi-syllabic (and grammatically correct) expletives from me…..
…..that along with primal screaming into the swamp………….it’s very cathartic…………I recommend it…
I have been known to use the first names of the crossword-puzzle-makers in vain…..
Curse you Stan and Joyce and Thomas…….
…..do you know the name of the mule who worked on the Erie Canal?………….it’s another regular question…….
…..WE ALL NOW KNOW IT’S “SAL” WHO PULLS THE BARGES ON THE CANAL…..!!!
Canal Barg Mules——-(but is one of them Sal?)-(AND is this the Erie Canal?)
(is it sad that I know the words to that song?)
