Okay…you’d think after my recent raccoon altercations…..

…..that I wouldn’t even consider ordering more chickens…(or ducks)…..

You would probably think that…and that would be a reasonable and sensible consensus…..

…..but you’d be wrong…..

…..I did order more baby chicks…(and ducklings)…..

I only purchased pullets (baby girls) and not cockerels (baby boys)…(except for one)…..

…..(you know…to avoid that whole subsequent A.M. Rooster Cacophony)…..

…..I even paid more for all pullets…..

However…the mail-order hatcheries do say that when pullets are ordered…there will probably (most definitely) be a 10% error rate…..

…..(i.e.—you will get 10% cockerels by mistake—not really by mistake—more likely a definite planned mistake)…..

***What that really means is:  they charge more for pullets…and most people don’t buy cockerels…so they have extra cockerels they need to push off on you…(at pullet pricing)***

My duck order was………….for ten Runner Ducks…pied and black…..

They’ve all been in our brooder on the porch for the last couple weeks…..

Soon they’ll be able to go outside…..

…..I’m going to drag my feet doing that this time…to wait for the chick-drowning-mud to lessen…and to make sure Mister Raccoon has definitely gone elsewhere…..

…..(it’s a jungle out there)…..

…..(it’s good to be prepared)…..
