Chicken Stupidity………………..(and repeat).
(See “Chicken Intellect”—post/published—March 10, 2018).

I might as well just re-post the entry from March.
Those silly biddies are at it again!
Longevity is not in their game-plan…
Just about the same identical situation happened again.
Well one thing can be said for sure…………………..the errant hen made it back home……………………twice now!

I thinks she might be discouraged now, because we don’t just remove her eggs…………….we’ve left at least one broken one in her make-shift nest under the tool chest in the back of my truck.
But it’s getting hotter by the minute here in Florida and the humidity is on the rise………………………..which leaves broken, previously raw eggs simmering in the left-over, muddy rainwater in the bed of my truck…..

……………………….a thorough attack on a person’s olfactory senses. Yuck.
So, all in all, I think this hen has gotten the idea that her preferred nesting spot with wheels is not the best spot to raise a brood.
Good!
Tomorrow I should be picking up the few ducklings that I ordered. I know I ordered Black Runners. I also ordered something else……………but I can’t remember what type right now.

To that affect, my older daughter and I shuffled around the brooder-cages in the chicken coop. We put all of the chicks together in a fenced-off area.
That left one of the brooder cages empty for the in-coming ducklings. I’ll put it up on bricks so that I can put in a dish of water for them to paddle around and play in.
With it being up on bricks, the baby ducks won’t be in wet bedding or mud.

I’m looking forward to them getting here. Their arrival is timely.
We lost Goose of our duo of Pekin ducks this last week. She just appeared to die in her sleep………………..I don’t know what happened.
Farm-life can be tough. This Spring has been a tough one.
But Duck-Duck is now quite lonely. She needs buds.

She’ll have quite a few tomorrow.
I hope they learn to get along.
I did research and ducks do cross breed.
So along that line, maybe she’ll find an intriguing drake amongst the Runner ducklings who will grow up and be her mate……………that would be nice.

Poor Duck-Duck.
Right now she just waddles around quacking all day.
She misses Goose so much.
Runner/Pekin babies would be cute…
