C.E.U.’s…..

All Hail the Necessary…the Postponed…the Expensive…the Required…..

………….Continuing Educational Units………….

…..TA!…DA!…..

You may know what I mean…..

And those of you who are blissfully unaware…..

…..I envy you…..

Well…the long and the short of it is…they’re Due…..

…..(you have to “collect” them by attending educational seminars…workshops…and conferences—in order to maintain your professional licenses)…..

When you’ve been doing something for as long as I have…(i.e. you’re old)…..

…..you see patterns…(or sometimes…complications there of)…..

This year was one of those unfortunate dips in the pattern (of C.E.U. collections)…..

…..two of my licenses came due in the same year…..

…..Athletic Training and Massage Therapy…..

…..(I’ve been practicing both for about fifty years now—geez—I shouldn’t broadcast that)…..

One would think…that being a dinosaur…I would’ve planned better…projected better…prepared better…..

…..one would think that…..

…..But Nope…..

I’m cramming in C.E.U.’s like there’s no tomorrow…..

…..(much like carbs…after I’ve fallen off my diet)…..

This last weekend…(an equally-old colleague and I)…motored to Mickey-Land/Orlando…for a Sports Medical Conference…..

…..(collecting C.E.U.’s are much like hunting and catching Pokémon’s)…..

Talking about cramming…I’ve become a master at stuffing my “Welcome Bag” with all the available freebies & goodies…..

…..but since Covid there’s a rarity of multiple day events…you come for a day…you go…no need to book a hotel…..

…..(and sadly no opportunity to hoard towels…with the resulting inability to rotate bath towels in my linen cabinet)—(such sadness)…..

But what I lacked in procured terry cloth…I make up for in mints and little chocolate bars…(the vendors still try luring you in with pens and candy…and now monogrammed hand-sanitizers)…..

…..(but no fluffy hotel towels)…..

I even missed out on snagging Earl Grey tea bags for Mary Constance…(the coffee-condiment-man was both protective & attentive)…..

And…the conference room was Frigid…..

I was even prepared by wearing knee-socks, Doc Martens, Patrice, AND a flannel shirt…(I dress to the nines for these things)…..

…..I still had icicles on my earlobes…I know they wanted to keep us awake…but that was just cruel…..

And here’s a first…the Emcee was an Elvis Impersonator…..

…..I kid you not…..

…..(it was just too early for that)…..

Plus…they started out with a magician’s act too(?)……

…..What Are We…Children?…..

…..(apparently…what with the stolen towels…shoving chocolate in my face…and snagging more pens than I’ll ever need or use…hmmmmm(?)…I guess so)…..

But there was my very own deck of cards in my “Welcome Bag” for me to practice my newly learned card tricks…..and along with Elvis sneaking up behind me…to make sure I was awake…(and shivering)…..

…..I guess I learned about billing for Workman’s Comp…& How to Avoid Post-Joint Replacement Infections…& the Do’s & Don’t of Surgical Hand Flexor Repair…&…card tricks…..

I’m doing home-study now to brush up on my Reiki Techniques and Lymphatic Drainage along with courses in Ethics and State Law and Medical Errors…..

You know…given that human anatomy really hasn’t changed in the last fifty years…..

…..I’m running out of new stuff to study…..

…..(I think I would’ve enjoyed a seminar more on…the Joys of Chainsaw Maintenance)…..

…..(that would’ve been interesting)…..
