I think I’ve mentioned in past posts that a farm is mostly a matriarchal system…..

Stallions…Bucks…Boars…Roosters…Drakes…are all necessary…don’t get me wrong…..

…..well…I don’t know about roosters…at least our roosters…..

Our roosters all crow their faces off during the wee hours of each morning…I swear they’re all on Central European Time…..

But it’s the Mares…Does…Sows…Hens…and Ducks who produce the foals…milk…piglets…and eggs…..

Don’t get me wrong…I fully appreciate the Birds and the Bees…I endorse it…I applaud it…..

…..but there’s a lot to be said for AI and a skilled veterinarian and FedEx and cooled shipped semen…..

…..(and by AI…I mean artificial insemination…not artificial intelligence)…..

But Brave…and Trooper…and Beau…and Guillaume…are all here…(I just realized I don’t have names for all the roosters or any of the drakes)…(that will need to be rectified)…..

And…as it appears…Brave and Trooper have become best of buds…and hang out together all the time these days…..

Trooper rubs up against Brave…and Brave doesn’t seem to mind the residual wafting urine fragrance…..

…..(all buck goats think they smell odiferous-ally wonderful)…(and they want to share)…..

But recently my older daughter got some pictures of Trooper itching his head on Brave’s hocks (that was very trusting of him)…..

…..and Trooper came away with part of Brave’s tail stuck in his horn scur…and what my daughter said looked like hair extensions…..

We already know that Trooper takes his coif very seriously…..

Trooper hangs out on top of the compressed alfalfa bales…so that he can be eye-level with his buddy Brave…..

It’s actually quite cute…..

Brave will itch Trooper’s back with his teeth…and Trooper will chew on Brave’s fetlocks…..

Does anybody remember the Thoroughbred racehorse (and movie of the same name) “Seabiscuit”?

And where they tried to introduce a goat as a stall buddy/companion for Seabiscuit?…..

Well…that relationship didn’t work out very well…but I do remember once…years ago…visiting a trainer friend at the Belmont Racetrack Training Barns…..

…..and at that time…there was a big ole’ shaggy goat in one of the horse barns…he was there as a stablemate…..

So Brave and Trooper have become best pals…it’s good to have friends…..
