Brave’s Coif

Brave has more mane and tail than he knows what to do with.

His long hair has a luxurious wave to it………….almost like the 1920’s finger-wave…………..but he doesn’t take care of it.
I don’t think he’s touched a brush or a comb in years…
So, I guess I have to do it…
His mane is really luxurious & thick.

But if it’s left to its own devices, it twists into dreadlocks.
Brave the Rastafarian.

I doubt I can get him to keep on one of those green & red & yellow knit caps.
I do really like reggae music……………..Paolo and I agree on that one for sure.

Marley rules here.
But back to Brave and his doo.
He’s a weenie when it comes to a brush……………….forget a comb…
I’ve incorporated his beauty-styling brushings with his feedings………..he’s not thrilled with the combination…………but it works for me.
I feed him in his bucket attached to the pine tree.
While his face is in the bucket, and he’s distracted by food, I brush out the tendrils and tresses and knots and mats.

Today I got to the nucleus of one of the decidedly nastier hair balls.
There was a handful of hay at the center of the dreadlock………and dirt……..at least I didn’t find anything living in there…
I needed to separate all the snarls and brush out each piece after I was able to pry it loose.
Keep in mind he’s a super tall horse, so all of this was done on my tippy-toes, with my arms completely extended up over my head.
A couple times I thought he might separate my hand from my index fingers……………..he’s not the most patient of horses.
I had to be versatile enough so that when he jerked his head and trotted away, that my hand wasn’t still stuck in his snarls.
I think he gets concerned with the ripping hair sounds.
His mane is so ample and pretty, but it does need conditioning.
That’s the next treatment.
