It’s an on-going worry…..

I’m worried about Brave…..

He lost his pasture buddy when we had to put Claire down…..

Where it was the kindest thing for Claire…it left Brave totally alone…..

He’s a sensitive horse…you think of stallions as being these big courageous steeds…..

…..well…they are…..

They are big…and they are courageous…..

…..but courageous steeds also have feelings too…..

Trooper is being a good friend…and is by Brave’s side most of the day…..

But a buck goat is a far cry from a Clydesdale buddy…..

We’ve upped Brave’s food…he’s loosing weight…..

So we’re feeding him more often…..

We’ve added some “sure to put on weight” feed along with some Calf Manna……

…..(but I don’t see much of an improvement yet)…(but I might be a little impatient)…..

…..plus he’s on totally free-choice compressed alfalfa twenty-four hours a day…..

I think he’s eleven years old….maybe twelve…..

We were able to get a series of some really great (but heartbreaking) photos the other morning…..

Trooper was with him…but so was Cami and her new buckling twins…..

Brave was still laying down from his night’s sleep (draft horses lay down to nap a lot) and the kids were using him as their own personal playground…..

They would run up his body singly or in pairs…..

They would bounce and launch from his belly into aerial twists and pirouettes…or just roughhouse and ungracefully fall off his back…..

…..and Brave laid there patiently & quietly throughout…just watching them cavort & play…..

He put up with their high jinks for as long as we were watching…and then some…..

And so far…this has become an every morning routine……

I hope this distraction helps him deal with the loss of Claire…..

…..I’m still worried…there’s definitely a change in his attitude…..
