Tomorrow is check-in for the chickens for the Open Poultry Show at the Florida State Fair…

 

Lola had to come by tonight to bathe her chicken…………….Lola insisted on coming by this evening to baby-shampoo her bird……………

Who am I to stand in Lola’s way?

We had a long conversation earlier today on the appropriate clippers needed for trimming her bird’s nails……………(?)

She asked me what I used to trim my chicken’s nails…………………(?)

……………………(I don’t.)

Lola came with her own nail clippers/emory board/baby shampoo/finishing spray (?)/and towel…

………………..whatever Lola wants………………..Lola gets………………..(a la Sarah Vaughn’s song.)

 

And so, “In The Buff” got her bath tonight…

She had her nails emory-boarded…

 

Her comb & wattle were soaped and cleaned and oiled……………….Lola referred to them as “those red things”…………………

 

Those “red things” are now glowing and glistening…

 

 

I just learned tonight that “In The Buff” is the hen’s professional name, but her informal name is “Playgirl”………………….(Lola obviously has way too much spare time to run amok…)

 

“Playgirl” had the nooks and crannies of the creases on her scaly legs cleaned with Q-Tips.

 

 

 

 

She was finally spritzed with some sort of fruit-smelling, finishing spray……………..fortunately, not an aerosol can (birds’ respiratory tracts can’t handle aerosol very well).

 

Lola encouraged my younger daughter and me to bathe the remaining birds who are scheduled to go to the Fair tomorrow.

HA!

And I say…………………HA!!!

I might have said something about ice water in Hades…………I just might have…

They’ll get a  thorough (actually superficial) going over with baby wipes tomorrow, and I’ll call it a day……………………………and then, Bob’s your uncle….

(Hey, Bob.  You coming to the Fair, too?)

So, as this evening winds down…………..

………….Lola has gone home to check on a lame Jezebel (her Hunt horse)…

………….”In The Buff” is fluffed and ensconced with her dirty comrades awaiting her trip to the Exhibition Barn at the Florida State Fair tomorrow…

………….And the bath tub has been cleaned and bleached…

………….Just another day at the oasis………….
