Barley………What’s Not To Love

Barley………What’s Not To Love

Not Sure If This Is Barley

Remember the recent Brisket Ode?

Well, I  successfully arm-wrestled hounds, husband and daughter and won.

I kept the heel of the brisket (if it even has a foot), along with all the drippings and rendered vegetables………………..and I hid the bowl in the back of the fridge.

So the plan is…………

The temperature today is dipping…………

I’ve got the fireplace swept out and ready to go……………….I’ve got ample damp wood at the ready…

Now, back to the barley…………..

I love barley………….it’s almost a forgotten fruit………….along with tapioca (but that will have to be another post———I love the fish-eye ones)-(what is tapioca anyway?)

But barley……………………good stuff.

I’ve done battle with local grocery stores to keep It on their shelves.

Even the store clerks look at you cross-eyed when you ask what aisle the barley is on……………………(they should have listened to their grandmothers more better when they were scarfing down her barley soup).

But barley……………

First and foremost…………..it can be and it is just great when it’s distilled……….corn/malted barley/grain &/or rye……..good stuff when fermented and distilled.

Yep, you knew I would go there first, didn’t you?

But secondly…………….it’s great in soup…………..specifically Beef Barley soup…

Thirdly…………it’s all over the cereal aisle…………but that’s an insult to the grain.

Carrots, onions, celery, beef chunks and………………………….barley………..

It’s love in every spoonful.

So, even though the brisket pan has been soaking for days (and was only just scour-able this morning), the infamous brisket lives on in today’s beef barley soup.

(Too bad it’s not on my Atkins diet———and yes, I’m still Atkins’ing.)

But back to the soup.

It’s wonderful.

This is the perfect day.

It will permeate the house with wonderful, luscious aromas.

A love-pat to my family’s tummy.

Kitchen chemistry………

……….it’s the best.

Oh, and the drippings?………………………..?

……………still saturated fat…

You realize a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I actually will
need to…HaHa). You definitely put a fresh spin on a subject that has been written about
for ages. Wonderful stuff, just great!
