Annie
We lost Annie, too.
She was the last one surviving from that pasture.
She died with the same symptoms, but I’m sure loneliness played a huge part in her death………….she was so bonded with Sonja.
~~~~~~~~~When we bought Sonja…………….Annie had to be part of the deal. She charged into that horse trailer and didn’t leave Sonja’s side the entire drive home~~~~~~~~
We’ve met more of our neighbors.
Apparently, Annie had a lot of names……………..she seemed to have been a crowd favorite with a lot of the neighborhood.
We still await the results from a great many tests……………….poisoning is running at the front of the pack……………….we may never know exactly what happened…
This is all tearing me apart…
We lost seven horses and one donkey in less than one week.
What I can’t wrap my head around is………….why is it the “go to” for people to poison livestock?
For me “livestock” aren’t just livestock…………….they are friends.
Unfortunately…………….I know of a number of farmers and acquaintances over the years who have had this happen to them…………………………..it happened to us on our farm when I was a child. (See “Just A Little Dip”—Post/Published—February 11, 2018.)
Needless to say, we are shopping for surveillance camera systems.
!!!Oh, and the Sheriff’s Department was called to come out twice throughout all of this!!!
The first time was while we were euthanizing horses…………….they didn’t know why they were called, but they had to respond…………….they were extremely polite and just as confused as we were…………………..the call to them was anonymous.
The next day “anonymous” had an officer from the Sheriff’s Department with the Environmental Crimes Unit come out……………………he was extremely polite and just as confused as we were, but he had to respond to the call.
Just for the record, we are completely compliant with laws, statutes, zoning, green-belting…………………apparently, however, “anonymous” doesn’t like us……….
Anonymous—————–go back to suburbia.

We are considering privacy fencing down the entirety of the fence line between us and “those” neighbors next to us.
