And This Little Piggy………….

And This Little Piggy………….

Nice Glowing Eye, Huh?
Mountain Lion, Not Florida Panther…….But Close

Prior to Suzanne-Annette’s encounter with the Florida Panther a couple of days ago…….

A couple of days before that, I had a big surprise.

It was a backyard encounter with a sizeable herd of wild pigs…….

Usually I find myself defending this farm in my underwear or pajamas…….at least this time I was fully clothed.  Patrice was faithfully at my side…….so there’s a plus…….

It was in the broad daylight of mid-afternoon…….no sneaking around in the dark of night for these boogers.

I stumbled upon a herd of more than TEN (10+) feral pigs right out in the goat pasture and near my bee hives…

The Big Boar Is Off-Screen To The Right.  Count Them…………….Ten…Eleven?
Aloof Hounds

All my Wolfhounds were in the backyard about 100 feet from the hogs………….none of the hounds were barking……….the hogs weren’t concerned……….no one seemed to care.

……….and who was between the two social groups?

……….me…

How does this always seem to happen?

Maybe it’s because of the boonies where we live…….

But I was armed this time with more than a fitted sheet or an empty pasta box…….

…….yes I was!

I had a one-gallon plastic sprayer at the ready!

Woo Hoo!

The head boar had spotted me and I had spotted him…

The Boar

He wasn’t happy…

I wasn’t pleased…

*****More Feral Pig Information*****

He started snorting and stomping…

I started talking………….I started talking a lot…

…….I do have to say…….he seemed to listen…….I guess I speak pig(?)

I told him he needed to collect his family and leave~~~I did this while simultaneously plotting my escape route…

He stomped at me a few more times…….I waved my one-gallon plastic sprayer at him…

I contemplated spraying him with its contents (vinegar/Epsom salts/& dish soap~~~really scary-stuff)………….

Then, fortunately, he snorted once more………….turned around and trotted off………….with his extended family in tow.

I now have added another battle-ax to my arsenal of weaponry:  1.  Fitted Sheets (solid or patterned).  2.  Empty Pasta Boxes (preferably one pound or higher).  3.  One Gallon Plastic Sprayers.          (Don’t ever be caught in a swamp without at least one of these.)

  1. Hogs can run up to 30 mph, I hope you noted. I would watch my bees, piggies do love them some sweets and most likely they are still in the general area . I would also start carrying something slightly more dangerous too. Seriously. You have Wolfhounds, those were pigs. Obviously the dogs know the difference between a hog and a wolf, hence no reaction.

    1. Say it ain’t so!……………….not my bees!!!!!!!! Noooooooooooooooooo!
Funny you suggested something more powerful than waving an empty pasta box…….I’m currently researching an appropriate petite pistol for Patrice’s pockets (say that five times fast).
      Nobody messes with my bees.
