Dawn Over The Back Swamp

It’s a beautiful morning…

The Back Pasture

The sun is just coming up…

Morning

There’s still a mist rising up and a haze settling in…

It’s a Florida summer, so there’s moisture dripping from every opportunity…

It’s still not intolerably hot out there…….but you know it will to be shortly…

Egrets In The Front
Storks In The Back
Wild Osceola Hen Turkey In The Goat’s Pasture

I love when the assortment of birds wake up and get going with their daily business……….they fly here or there……….all having their morning chatter about what’s on the agenda for their day…

~~~~~Old English Game Cock~~~~~
…All Except For Alex (the English Game Cock—–Livestock Conservancy Description)
He’s Smaller Than My Hens
Alex is this short, little rooster with a Napoleon-Complex.
He is the first to notice any inkling of difference in lightness to the east (4:00—5:00am)……….
…..Alex then announces that yet another dawn is on its way…….with five minute regularity…….in a staccato, helium-pitched cock-a-doodle-doo…..
…….sigh…….
Alex is not going to last.
All the roosters seem to get the crowing-thing out of their system once the sun is well & truly up.
The Big Guys~~~With The Girls
I don’t mind the big guys.
Rex Or Goliath Inside “Stalag Coop”
Their voices are in the bass-range………….but Alex’s is like fingernails on a chalkboard……….repeatedly…….repeatedly…….and did I already say…….repeatedly?
Yep……….Alex is going down the road…
Alex And Some Of The Girls
I didn’t buy Alex.
He was gifted (dropped off) by my farrier…………………(who apparently has a sick sense of humor).
When I was little, the farm next to ours in Ohio raised fighting cocks who looked a lot like Alex…
He’s not even good as a stew bird……….there’s nothing on his bones……….just feathers and a larynx.
The “First” Alex
He didn’t come with the name…
I named him after my older daughter’s boyfriend of a few years back———-skinny, short, and cocky…
…….And that Alex went down the road too…………………….
  1. Just one question. Has anybody seen the non-feathered Alex, anywhere, since he “went down the road”? You do have hogs, and if not actually owning a wood chipper, I have no doubt that you have access. Inquiring minds want to know.
